The Allure of Art
Take a look around you. What do you see? Do your surroundings bring you comfort? Peace? Stimulate your senses? Try to imagine staring at nothing but blankness. No colour, no pretty things, nothing. I can't imagine living in a world without art. My soul would be asleep.
For me, art is my breath. My soul comes alive when I see colour, and I feel stimulated. I think that is why I am drawn to abstract art. Abstract art is meant to give you a visceral experience, one that is very personal to you. You see what you want to see, you see yourself, your story.
My mom will often say 'I don't get it', and that is ok. Art is not meant to be intimidating, and there is no one answer. What I painted and had in my head, may ring completely different for you - but that is the whole point, especially for abstract art. I WANT you to see something different, to feel something, to get lost in it. When I paint, I work best when I have a vague idea or theme in my head. When I try to work with a concrete image, I never seem satisfied. Things become too literal, and I feel like my message gets lost. I try to listen to deep within and paint intuitively. I flow with my music, I flow with my emotions, I flow with nothingness. And that is what brings my soul alive.
I think all of us want the same thing - to feel that inner euphoria. That tingling magic that puts a real smile not only on our lips, but in our eyes. Often times, we don't know exactly what it is that we are looking for, but when we see it, we know. We just know. And then the dance begins.
